Randolph was fouled on the inbound...

Once again, the Trail Blazers went to Randolph, who got off a pretty nice attempt at a game-winner, but the ball rimmed out.

It looks like the Trail Blazers won't head into their Christmas break with a 6 game win streak, but they had some very solid performances in the overtime loss. Outlaw was absolutely on fire all game long, scoring 18 points on 5 of 10 from the field. Randolph turned in an excellent fourth quarter and overtime- finishing with a team high 20 points, but the game ball has to go to Brandon Roy, who, in his second game back from injury, gave the Trail Blazers everything they needed to keep the game within reach. Roy finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists.

T.J. Ford led all scorers with 23 points for the Raptors and Toronto fans should be lining up at the point guard's door for his autograph. Ford contributed to every point the Raptors scored in overtime, whether it was by scoring it or dishing the assist.

It's heartbreaking when a team loses a game that they could've won, but it's a long season and Portland has to be pleased anytime they win 5 out of 6 games.

I was listening to every waning moment from the 4th quarter on and all I have to say is that from the sounds of Wheels, the boys were doing there darndest. Oh well, they can learn from this and take it to the next level.

Was it the 32 points off turnovers that hurt worse than 13 missed shots from behind the arc?????

My opinion is, once you've established either making a 3 or missing it during the game, you live by that in the last quarter. In other words, once 1 or 2 for whatever the drout was, it should have stopped.... Quit going to the dry well and utilize that towards inside shots.....

Oh well there are plenty of more games left..... Great job on the effort.

Ford passed, which seemed to be good news for Portland fans, but then the Raptors hit a baseline jumper from about 13 feet to give them the lead.

3.5 left and Trail Blazer ball.

Surprise Surprise...

T.J. Ford has been given the keys to Toronto's offense.

The point guard was rejected on his lay-up attempt, but refs saw a little too much contact and rewarded his aggressiveness with free-throws.

Fortunately, he missed the first! Portland now leads 100 - 99 with 32.5 left to play.

Randolph AGAIN!
posted: at 9:41 PM

It's Chalupa time!

Randolph put in his sixth point of the overtime and 20th point of the game to give the Trail Blazers a two point lead, 100 - 98.

This time, it was an unbelievable, unblockable hook shot from the middle of the key.

OVERTIME!
posted: at 9:34 PM

Brandon Roy breaks the overtime tie with a beautiful jumper from the top of the key.

Roy now has 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists.

T.J. Ford responded with a basket of his own to tie the game once more... Other than T.J. Ford, the Raptors offense looks terrible. Nesterovic missed everything on a hook shot from 5 feet away from the hoop, and it looked like he got yelled at for even putting up the shot.

T.J. Ford now has 8 points in the overtime. That is, 8 of 8 Raptors points in the overtime.

Good news is that Zach Randolph has decided that this is Portland's game to win. Randolph has converted two baskets in overtime and now has 18 points on the night. On his last basket, the Rose Garden crowd erupted- cheering so loud that the floor began to shake.

Still tied at the Rose Garden, 98 - 98, but it's Trail Blazer ball and we're two points away from a free Chalupa courtesy of Taco Bell.

Unbelievable.
posted: at 9:30 PM

A game this good just can't end on a play like that.

T.J. Ford once again isolated on Brandon Roy, but then put up the worst game-ending shot in the history of Trail Blazers basketball. The shot was so bad, it careened off the FAR side of the backboard- missing rim, net, and nearly missing the hoop itself, only to land in the open arms of Jorge Garbajosa.

Garbajosa then put the ball back up for two.... WAIT! The play's reversed! NO BASKET. The refs have reversed the call after the replay! We're headed to overtime!

The ball hung around the rim for an eternity, but it just wouldn't fall for Randolph who has turned in a big fourth quarter and now has 14 points for the Trail Blazers.

On the other end, a long jumper by Garbajosa has tied the game at 90.

16 seconds left in regulation... Raptors ball.. And the game is still tied at 90.

The Jell-O Defense is back...
posted: at 9:19 PM

Again, Brandon Roy was hit with a questionable foul call. After losing his man on a beautiful cross-over, refs felt so bad for the defender, who nearly fell over, that they called an offensive foul on Roy.

The ball never lies, though, and the Raptors almost immediately turned the ball back over to Portland with an errant pass that landed somewhere in the third row.

The Rose Garden is rocking, the foundation is shaking and the Trail Blazers are leading 90 - 88.

Roy with a reverse lay-up!
posted: at 9:12 PM

Big Shot Brandon? You My Boy, Roy? Whatever it is, Brandon Roy needs a nickname because the rookie shooting guard is a human highlight reel.

Following up his clutch shot against Houston, Roy took control of another broken play with 7 seconds left on the shot clock. This time, he beat his man baseline, flew past the rim and another defender, and then shocked the crowd with a beautiful reverse.

Roy couldn't have picked a better time to dump in his 14th point of the game. Trail Blazers now lead the Raptors 88 - 86.

Emotions running high with 8:42 left in the game...
posted: at 8:59 PM

In a game that's shaping up to be another nail-biter, both teams needed a timeout to cool their jets a little bit.

Jarrett Jack took a brutal foul beyond the arc, which only increased the tension of an already intense game. Portland could not convert on the possession- they've turned the ball over the last 3 times they've touched it- and the Raptors have clawed their way back into the game.

Jamaal Magloire broke the streak and the tie with a big hook shot from down low. The shot not only gave the Trail Blazers a two-point lead, but it also took the lid off the rim. Jarrett Jack capitalized with a three-pointer on the next possession and pushed the Trail Blazers lead to 5 points.

Jack now has 12 points in the game and the Trail Blazers lead 83 - 80.

Of course Juan is spelled with a J...
posted: at 8:51 PM

But his game isn't just about the jumper...

Juan Dixon juked a Raptor defender out of his shoes on a pump fake, took the ball baseline, and smiled for the cameras as he posterized Andrea Bargnani, who was late with his help defense.

Dixon then remixed the same move to end the third quarter, with a pump fake and then a pull-up jumper that capped a huge Portland rally. Dixon now has 6 points in the game, but the third quarter was all Brandon Roy and Travis Outlaw. Roy is nearing his first triple-double with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists heading into the fourth.

Outlaw is on fire from the field, though, scoring 18 points so far on 5 of 7 from the field.

Trail Blazers lead the Raptors 76 - 68.

Timeout Trail Blazers...
posted: at 8:40 PM

The Rose Garden is definitely in a festive mood tonight, rocking all night long to holiday classics. The Junior Blazer Dancers even danced with Santa's hats while Blaze has spread holiday cheer in a full Santa suit.

All Portland fans really want right now is some holiday love from the refs. After forcing Randolph out of the game with 4 fouls, the stripes hit Brandon Roy with an offensive foul, even though the rookie guard had stopped in his tracks and shifted directions before making contact with the Raptors defender.

It seems like the Raptors have implored what's called the "Jell-O" defense, where whenver a Portland player makes an attempt at the basket, they wiggle a little bit and then fall down.

Trail Blazers take back the lead!
posted: at 8:30 PM

But the celebration was short-lived as referees hit Randolph with his fourth foul of the game. Either the referee who made the call is Canadian or he woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and doesn't want to see Portland fans celebrate.

The foul came after Jorge Garbajosa had missed his three-pointer, landed from his jump and then flopped, pleaded, and cried his way to the ground right in front of the Portland bench.

Without Randolph, Portland will have to rely even more on Brandon Roy and Jarrett Jack. Roy has grabbed two offensive rebounds in the second half and now has 10 points. Outlaw leads all Portland scorers with 11 points on 4 of 5 from the field.

Portland is rallying but still down 64 - 61.

Heading into half-time...
posted: at 8:08 PM

After having all sorts of trouble scoring against a tough Trail Blazers' zone defense, the Raptors found a way to beat the zone and break the tie with a three-pointer by Anthony Parker.

The three gave Toronto a slight edge heading into half-time, leading the Trail Blazers 52 - 49.

Bargnani still leads all Toronto players with 9 points, but Anthony Parker and Fred Jones are right on his heels with 8 points a piece. Portland is also witnessing the quickness of point guard T.J. Ford, who has slashed his way to 6 points and 5 assists.

Travis Outlaw, Raef LaFrentz, and Brandon Roy have come off the bench to lead the Trail Blazers in nearly every category. Outlaw is 3 for 3 from the field and is tied with Jarrett Jack at 9 points as Portland's leading scorer. The Portland bench has contributed 28 of the Trail Blazers' 49 points, which is both good and bad. It means that the Trail Blazers are an incredibly deep team, but it also means that leading scorer Zach Randolph has yet to get going from the field. Look for the Trail Blazers to try and find Randolph a little more frequently in the second half.

Benson High School's Technique Dance squad nearly blew up the Rose Garden during half-time as they flipped, shook, and wild out to music by Fergie, Lil Jon and others. The Portland crowd gave the dancers an enormous ovation, but couldn't inspire an encore out of the young performers.

Energy line in for Trail Blazers...
posted: at 8:01 PM

Even though they have yet to officially introduce a line of Energy drinks with Jarrett Jack's likeness, the second year guard could very well have a career marketing his own line of high-octane sodas. Imagine yourself guzzling down a "Get Jack'd" instead of a Red Bull or a Rockstar!

The current lineup for the Trail Blazers definitely has enough energy to sponsor a drink. With Roy, Outlaw, Jack, Magloire and Martell Webster, the Trail Blazers have turned up the heat and really started attacking the basket on the offensive end. Portland now leads 44 - 43 with Travis Outlaw shooting two free throws.

Portland's smothering defense has set the tone..
posted: at 7:50 PM

Call it "The Brandon Roy Effect," but when the rookie guard is in the game, the Trail Blazers always step their game up. Roy's help defense, along with Juan Dixon's energy in the backcourt, has sparked a Portland rally and given the Trail Blazers a 3 point lead.

In a blink of an eye, however, the Raptors tied up the game, with a baby hook shot and a converted foul shot. Bargnani leads all Toronto players with 9 points, while Jarrett Jack has scored 9 of his own to lead the Trail Blazers.

Brandon Roy isn't leading Portland in scoring but he's done everything but sell popcorn so far. He's scored 4 points, dished 4 assists, grabbed 3 rebounds, drawn fouls, wrapped presents, played both shooting and point guard, caused turnovers and even wished everyone a holly, jolly holiday...

LaFrentz is putting in work down low...
posted: at 7:42 PM

If effort is the deciding factor tonight, Portland definitely has the edge early. Not only did Joel Pryzbilla start the game with two absolutely huge blocks, but Brandon Roy has also turned away a Raptor lay-up attempt.

LaFrentz, however, has been the biggest story so far. The center/forward has grabbed rebounds, caught passes and converted big shots from the paint to give the Trail Blazers a gigantic boost off the bench. Raef has 8 points and 1 rebound.

Blaze, the Trail Blazers mascot, also granted one young fan's winter wishes during the break by giving him a Blazer Dancer in a swimsuit for the holidays. There's been no word on whether the other Blazer Dancers are still available, but if they aren't, there's always the Blazer Dancer swimsuit calendar, which is a great gift for any fan!

Toronto sends in Bargnani and shifts momentum...
posted: at 7:36 PM

Jamaal Magloire's hard foul was an extremely questionable flagrant foul, but it was called anyway. The foul and the conversion of both free-throws has capped a small shift in momentum favoring the Toronto Raptors.

Andrea Bargnani has yet to shoot from the field, but his presence has impacted multiple Trail Blazer attempts. The number one pick in the 2006 draft is 4 for 4 from the free throw line to give himself four points to go along with 2 rebounds.

Heading to the second quarter, Portland trails 25 - 23.

Brandon Roy enters...
posted: at 7:31 PM

And immediately introduces himself to the Toronto Raptors with an assist to Raef LaFrentz, and then a second drive and dish to Zach Randolph.

Speaking of Randolph, the power forward has still been relatively quiet with 4 points. This, again, is due to the quick double teams that Toronto has used from the get-go. The attention Randolph has drawn has meant open looks for Jarrett Jack, Martell Webster and Ime Udoka, but Portland is only 1 of 7 from beyond the arc.

Jack for threeeeee...
posted: at 7:21 PM

Portland fans and players alike expected the game to be dictated by the play of each team's backcourt and Jarrett Jack has started out on fire tonight. After forcing a turnover, the point guard nailed a jumper from the top of the key, and then fooled everyone with a beautiful fadeaway from just inside the free-throw line.

Jack leads all scorers with 8 quick points and, most importantly, the Trail Blazers lead the Raptors 16 to 10 going into the first timeout.

The word is out on ZeBo...
posted: at 7:14 PM

Words has spread quickly around the league about the talent of power forward Zach Randolph. Most teams usually wait until the forward gets going before they start shifting defenses and double-teaming Portland's leading scorer. The Raptors, however, have decided not to let Randolph beat them and have started the game with active defense centered around every movement that ZeBo makes.

Joel Pryzbilla has immediately made an impact for the Trail Blazers. Not only did he deny a dunk attempt by Jorge Garbajosa, but he followed up that performance with a brutal rejection of Anthony Parker.

Portland leads 11 to 10.

Webster to start at shooting guard...
posted: at 7:04 PM

In a bit of a surprise move, Brandon Roy will come off the bench once again for the Trail Blazers. It's only a small shock to most Portland fans, because Webster absolutely destroyed the Raptors in the first meeting between these two teams. The second year shooting guard went 3 of 4 from three-point land and finished with 22 points.

Jack started the Trail Blazers scoring with a free-throw line extended jumper... The Raptors responded with two quick baskets of their own, until Ime broke down some poor Toronto defense and tied the game up at 4 points a piece.

University of Oregon Jam Squad opens up game...
posted: at 6:41 PM

The University of Oregon Jam squad warmed up the Portland crowd with a combination of hip-hop, break dance and gymnastic moves. The squad looked sharp and received a nice ovation from the bubbling Rose Garden crowd.

Unfortunately for UofO fans, their football team did not perform as well as their Jam squad. The Ducks were victimized by BYU's first bowl game victory since 1996, in a game which John Beck, starting quarterback for the Cougars, passed for 375 yards and two touchdowns. Final score of the contest was 38 to 8 in favor of BYU.

With the college football season over for the Ducks, and Oregon State's season to end soon, Oregon can finally return to a basketball state. The Trail Blazers 5 game winning streak is second within Oregon to the University of Oregon's 10 game win streak, which they've used to start the season. The 10 - 0 Ducks beat Idaho State in their most recent contest 84 - 55.

#24 Oregon State takes on Missouri in the Sun Bowl to round out their football season, which should be quite a battle, while their basketball team has started their season with an 8 and 5 record. Most recently, the Beavers knocked off Mercer by 31 points- 93 to 62.

Century High School performed beautiful renditions of both the "National Anthem" and "O Canada" and we're all ready to go here at the Rose Garden.

Trail Blazers look to make it six in a row...
posted: at 6:09 PM

There's a buzz around the Rose Garden right now that is reminiscent of the old "Rip City Rhapsody" days, and fans have every reason in the world to be excited. As if the momentum of a 5 game winning streak wasn't enough, Portland is expected to return potential Rookie of the Year candidate Brandon Roy back to the starting lineup tonight. In his first game back from injury, Roy contributed 9 points, including a huge late-game basket that all but sealed Portland's victory over the Rockets.

The first match-up between the Raptors and the Trail Blazers seemed to be a showcase of young talent, with both first pick Andrea Bargnani and second pick Lamarcus Aldridge starting for their respective teams. Bargnani outscored Aldridge 8 to 3, but Portland won the game 93 - 83.

Tonight, however, the Raptors will not see many familiar faces from the first meeting 4 games ago. The Trail Blazers are expected to start both Zach Randolph and Brandon Roy- neither of whom saw action in the first contest between the two teams. The new starting lineup means that there will be less focus on the Bargnani-Aldridge match-up than in the first game, but expect the two to find each other throughout the game.

Jarrett Jack and Martell Webster combined for 44 points in the first game to lead the Trail Blazers in scoring, and it will be huge for Portland to get a similar effort tonight out of their young guards. Since the injury to Chris Bosh, the Raptors have lived and died with the play of their backcourt, so if Jack, Roy, Webster and Co. can control the perimeter, expect Portland to head into their Christmas break with a 6 game winning streak.

30 minutes to game time... Get to the Rose Garden, get to a TV with Fox Sports Northwest, or find a radio but don't miss any of tonight's action!
