No luck tonight...
posted: Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 9:26 PM

The Trail Blazers have lost 93-85 to the Charlotte Bobcats. Travis Outlaw and LaMarcus Aldridge scored plenty of points, but it wasn't enough to overcome a united Bobcats team. The Trail Blazers have eight more games to play this season and will need to win half of them to reach a winning record on the year.

The Trail Blazers started with a Travis Outlaw three pointer and a LaMarcus Aldridge turnaround jumper over Emeka Okafor, one of the league's best 1-on-1 defenders. That's a pretty good start.

Old point guard rivalries
posted: at 6:58 PM

Jarrett Jack and Von Wafer have both been in the NBA for two seasons. They both played their college ball at schools in the ACC. So did Charlotte's Raymond Felton. Jack and Felton clashed in ACC contests a few years ago, so they're undoubtedly excited to match-up again. Felton's North Carolina team won the NCAA tournament. Let's hope his March Madness success doesn't continue tonight.

Starting lineups

With tip-off just 10 minutes away, here are your starting lineups...

The Trail Blazers will start Travis Outlaw (SF), LaMarcus Aldridge (PF), Joel Przybilla (C), Martell Webster (SG), and Steve Blake (PG).

The Bobcats will start Gerald Wallace (SF), Emeka Okafor (PF), Nazr Mohammed (C), Jason Richardson (SG), and Raymond Felton (PG).

An exciting match-up to watch will be Outlaw and Wallace, two incredible athletes from the South. Outlaw came out of high school in Mississippi, while Wallace is from Alabama. Outlaw and Wallace are two of the premier leapers in the NBA, and could put on a show tonight.

The Importance of Brandon
posted: at 6:23 PM

The Trail Blazers have a very strong bench. Travis Outlaw, Jarrett Jack, James Jones and Channing Frye all play significant roles and have each won games for this Portland team. But with Brandon Roy out with a groin injury, that reserve unit is weakened dramatically. This is not because Sergio Rodriguez, Von Wafer and Raef LaFrentz are incapable of contributing - they have all proven themselves to be valuable. It is because when Roy is out, and Jarrett Jack enters the starting lineup as the 2-guard, there really is no player to come in off the bench as a shooting guard. There has rarely been a moment this season where either Roy or Jack has not been on the floor, for they are the two most dangerous Trail Blazers off the dribble. Jack played 40 minutes in Thursday's loss to the Warriors. He, and the Trail Blazers, need someone else, be it Rodriguez, Blake, Webster, or Outlaw, to step up and create plays in Roy's absence. Maybe tonight's the night.

Not much history between Trail Blazers and Bobcats... or is there???
posted: at 6:10 PM

On the surface, tonight's game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Bobcats may seem like a relatively insignificant game between two lottery-bound teams. The Trail Blazers, while exceeding expectations this season, will finish in the tenth spot in the Western conference and are currently without All-Star guard Brandon Roy. The Bobcats have struggled mightily this season without two of their last three first-round draft picks. Yet, if we dig a little, there exists a deeper significance to this game. The man in charge for the Bobcats holds a vaunted place in Trail Blazers lore. Michael Jordan is in charge of basketball decisions for the Bobcats. The same Michael Jordan that was selected one pick after Sam Bowie in 1984. The same Michael Jordan that shrugged in bewilderment of his own greatness as he defeated the Trail Blazers in the 1992 NBA Finals. While Jordan isn't the face of the Bobcats, the spirit of this Trail Blazers team will surely be motivated to get a win in the Rose Garden tonight.
