Trail Blazers Finish Off Jazz
posted: Wednesday, April 04, 2007 at 9:20 PM

Despite being undermanned, the Trail Blazers found their scrap and hustle and knocked off the playoff bound Utah Jazz, 94-89 Wednesday at the Rose Garden. It was a much needed win for two reasons: because it put an end to a four game losing streak, and because the young team is headed out on a difficult Texas road trip.

Bradon Roy led the team with 29 points, followed closely by Travis Outlaw's career-tying 22 points. Jamaal Magloire grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with his seven points.

Overall, a great effort teamwide.

He fouls him again!

Roy to the line for two more and he cashes them both in.

Trail Blazers 91, Utah 87.

29.5 seconds to play, but no time to get soft yet -- this Utah squad is known to hit some threes.

Timeout Jazz.

Hits the first....

And the second.

With two free throws. 85 all.

On another note, after checking the stats to make sure, Travis Outlaw has tied his career high with 22.

We'll let you know just as soon as he tops it.

Giricek Three Cuts Lead to One
posted: at 9:02 PM

Then a critical no-call as Fred Jones is hacked in the lane gives Utah the ball back. Boozer's three point play puts the Jazz up two, but Travis Outlaw immediately answers.

All tied at 83. 4:00 to play and this crowd is getting rowdy with the calls Utah is getting.

Portland Steals!

Udoka open for three! Bounces out...

McMillan Earns a Technical
posted: at 8:57 PM

I say earned because he was standing up for his player, Brandon Roy, when he didn't get the call. Roy was clearly pushed out of bounds, though the refs didn't see it that way.

Utah ball, 5:23 to play.

Trail Blazers up, 81-77.

Coach Nate & the players have been great at holding their tongues throughout the season. I think Nate will be more vocal for the rest of the season - great technical!

Back to Back Utah Three's
posted: at 8:54 PM

From Gordan Giricek and Deron Williams cuts the Trail Blazer lead to four, but Fred Jones' fadeaway jumper kicks it back to six. Still plenty of time remaining.

Utah scores, Jones misses a three but Portland recovers and Brandon Roy nails a triple of his own.

Portland back up seven with 6:40 to play.

A Standing Ovation

Portland enter the final quarter up 10. Just need to keep this momentum going and Portland will end their four-game losing streak, while at the same time dealing the Jazz a big-time loss as they attempt to keep Houston from overtaking their playoff spot.

70-60, with one quarter to play.

Hitting Shots!
posted: at 8:41 PM

Trail Blazers shooting 51% from the field so far. They've made 25 of their 49 attempts. Keep that up, along with the tough 'D' that's limited Utah to just 38% and a win I do detect.

68-60, Portland and Fred Jones will shoot a clear path foul -- which means two shots and the ball!

So make that 70-60, Trail Blazers with the ball on the side and a chance to strech out that lead.

Everything is set perfectly in place for a barn-burning second half...

It wont be long.

More than that though (if there can be more than that) Travis is just plain being aggressive on offense -- he's taking it right at the Jazz 'D'.

Jack Nails Another
posted: at 7:24 PM

That's two from deep, and the young man is certainly feeling it.

Meanwhile, Schenscher is doing a fine job holding his own on both the defensive and offensive ends. And if his teammates were a little more acustomed to seeing him down there, Luke would probably have a couple points as he's been left open a number of times.

Portland 18, Utah 19.

Jack for 3!
posted: at 7:17 PM

Portland could surely use some added offense tonight, and maybe Jack is the man to provide it. He's had a difficult couple of games recently, but McMillan was impressed with his huslte in practice so he kept Jarrett in the starting lineup.

Give two to Brandon Roy inside and two more to Raef, and you've got Trail Blazers 7, Utah 8.

Portland must use their quickness tonight if they hope to win against Utah's large starting front line which consists of the 6'11" Mehmet Okur, and the 6'9" Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko.

Utah is pounding the ball inside early to take a 4-0 lead.

Gearing Up for the Jazz
posted: at 7:06 PM

The two teams have taken the floor in this, their third meeting of the season. Each team has so far defended their home court. Portland won here at the Rose Garden most recently on Feb. 20th, 103-100.

This time around it's going to be sustantially more difficult for the Trail Blazers, who are playing without Zach Randolph and LaMarcus Aldridge. Raef LaFrentz gets his first start of the season for Aldridge.

But it's not all bad news -- Ime Udoka is back after missing two games as a precautionary measure after he suffered his second concussion of the season...

It's getting close...
