Sonics take home the W...
posted: Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 8:10 PM

Well, the score isn't going to tell an accurate story about the night's game because it wasn't nearly as lop-sided as the 95 - 77 final would indicate.

The Sonics found their shots midway through the fourth quarter and it was all downhill from there. Zach Randolph led the Trail Blazers with 16 points and 8 rebounds and once again Brandon Roy was right on his heels.

Roy finished with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.

Who is this guy?
posted: at 8:09 PM

Everyone knows about Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis of the Sonics but not many people were expecting a break-out performance by forward/center Chris Wilcox.

Wilcox has 26 points and 7 rebuonds for the Sonics and he has really been a thorn in Portland's side all game long.

Brandon Roy has done an excellent job locking up All-star shooting guard Ray Allen. Allen has gotten his shots but only has 12 points on the night.

Trail Blazers have been victimized by some late three-pointers and some hot shooting from the Sonics. They now trail 91 - 75 with 2:30 left in the game.

Double D for three!
posted: at 7:58 PM

He's got 6 points after two three-pointers and he's got the Rose Garden back on its feet!

Right now, it's 80 - 73 Sonics but the 'Never-Say-Die' Trail Blazers are clawing their way back.

Webster! Webster! Webster!
posted: at 7:57 PM

If you look in the Dictionary under "Did You See That Dunk?!?" you’re going to find a picture of Martell Webster.

Webster palmed a rebound on a Brandon Roy miss and slammed it home for an emphatic two points.

Portland still trails 71 – 68, but it’s a rally in the Rose Garden!

Don't call it a comeback, but the Trail Blazers are storming back as the game heads to the fourth quarter.

Despite having Ime Udoka and LaMarcus Aldridge relegated to the bench with four fouls, Portland has cut the Sonics lead to just 6 points at 61 - 67.

Brandon Roy has got things going offensively along with Zach Randolph, who now has 16 points and 7 rebounds, to lead the Trail Blazers and Jamaal Magloire has also had a solid game.

The Big Cat has 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The biggest news of the night, however, was that one lucky Portland fan nailed the halfcourt shot in the Toyota "Shoot for a Truck" Contest. It's the second time a Portland fan has won a Toyota Tundra and it just further proves that Portland is a basketball city!

A Dan Dickau three-pointer has cut the Sonics lead to one point with 9:53 left in the fourth quarter! It's 66 - 67 Sonics.

Roy gets the Trail Blazers going...

Just what the doctor ordered- a Brandon Roy 15 footer for two points!

If the first basket is any indication, the second half might be all R.O.Y. in another comeback win for the Trail Blazers...

Where's your head at?
posted: at 6:44 PM

Starring Sergio Rodriguez.

It's one of the more entertaining video clips you'll see at a NBA game, combining both an oversized head of a Trail Blazers player and a break dancing body.

This time, it was rookie point guard Sergio Rodriguez who danced his way through a virtual copy of Portland.

According to the clip, Sergio has played basketball in every European country and is often compared to a young Steve Nash.

Meanwhile, the Sonics have built a small lead right before halftime at 47 - 37, but the game is far from over.

Portland could use a little more offensive aggressiveness from future Rookie of the Year Brandon Roy. Roy didn't score his second basket until late in the second quarter and only has 6 points as the Trail Blazers head to the locker room.

Jamaal Magloire and Zach Randolph are tied at 7 points apiece to lead the Trail Blazers and Magloire has also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds.

Defensively, Portland has slowed down the two-headed attack of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, but the Trail Blazers have been bullied down low by forwards Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison.

The Sonics have score 24 of their 47 points in the paint.

The Big Cat!
posted: at 6:39 PM

Everyone was looking for a Fred Jones thunder dunk, but Sergio found Jamaal "The Big Cat" Magloire for his signature "Look Ma, No Eyes"slamma-jamma.

Magloire has 7 points and 5 rebounds on the night.

With 8:18 left in the half, the Trail Blazers are down by 3, 27 - 30.

Sergio for 3!
posted: at 6:32 PM

Sergio Rodriguez ended the first quarter with a big three from the top of the key to cut into Seattle's small lead.

The Sonics lead 26 - 25.

One of the game's best match-ups that may have been overlooked heading into the game is the Luke Ridnour - Sergio Rodriguez match-up. Both are undersized guards that play an up-tempo, "run and gun" style which leads to easy baskets for their teammates.

Fred Jones and Martell Webster have checked in to start the second quarter and the Rose Garden is ready for one of Freddy's patented 360 degree whirlwind dunks!

Question of the Night...
posted: at 6:28 PM

The question was "If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one person with you, who would it be?"

LaMarcus Aldridge and Zach Randolph went with the obvious answer of Halle Berry because she was the type of person they could spend a lot of time talking to...

Brandon Roy's answer drew the biggest reaction from the crowd, because he stated that he would bring his brand new baby boy and watch him grow up.

A Jamaal Magloire three-point play has tied the game with 1:08 left in the first quarter. The teams are tied at 22.

Sergio Magnifico!
posted: at 6:24 PM

Spanish Chocolate has checked in for the Trail Blazers and immediately provided his customary spark.

The rookie guard out of Spain recovered a loose ball and found Ime Udoka in his favorite spot on the floor for 3 points.

The shot tied the game momentarily at 16 but Chris Wilcox's lay-up gave the Sonics a two-point lead, 18 - 16.

Great crowd tonight...
posted: at 6:17 PM

As always, the Portland fans have brought their energy tonight and have really caused problems for the visiting Supersonics...

But right now, it's the Sonic fans who are yelling the loudest. Seattle leads Portland 10 - 9 with 5:43 left in the first quarter.

It's hard to tell if all the green and yellow in the stands are Sonic fans or if their fans of the University of Oregon. The Ducks beat Winthrop earlier today to advance to the Sweet 16.

LaMarcus Aldridge's alma mater, Texas, failed to advance after being upset by the USC Trojans in a basketball version of the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Raef LaFrentz's Kansas JayHawks also advanced to the Sweet 16.

I-5 Rivalry gets going...
posted: at 6:12 PM

In the middle of March Madness, the professionals get back to work tonight at the Rose Garden. After a tough loss in the last meeting, the Trail Blazers are looking to defend their house once more against a tough Supersonics team.

Ime Udoka has his work cut out for him tonight as he will likely face Rashard Lewis- one of the NBA's top athletes who combines both size and speed.

Brandon Roy also has a tough match-up with Ray Allen. Allen is one of the game's most proficient sharp-shooters and he always seems to bring his A-game against the Trail Blazers.

It's been a slow start but with 8:11 left in the first quarter, the Trail Blazers lead the Sonics 7 - 6.
