Call Stands!

Ime at the line, can tie it all up!

Hits the first...

MISSES THE SECOND...

Oh what a way to go. Just when it looked like the Trail Blazers would squeak out of this one...

One of the strangest finishes I've ever seen. Too bad it had to end so bitterly.

INSANITY!
posted: at 9:20 PM

On the fast break the Grizzlies Rudy Gay throws down a reverse dunk. The team celebrates on center court after the Trail Blazers use their final timeout with 3 seconds to go.

Roy quickly nails a three pointer and then Zach Randolph fouls.

.8 seconds on the clock. It's all but done now. Damon on the line, hits the first. Misses the second. Wait!

LOOSE BALL FOUL CALLED ON THE REBOUND! IME'S GOING TO THE LINE FOR TWO!

Wait... now under review...

Ime Udoka is called for the foul.

Warrick hits both. 17.6 to go. Trail Blazer ball.

Trail Blazers recover, but Hakim Warrick knocks a pass out of bounds, but the refs rule it Memphis ball...

Unconscionable.

Still tied at 98.

38.6 seconds remain. Memphis ball.

Jump hook will do it. 98 all.

1:30 left and it's deafening in here.

Jack misses a three, but Trail Blazers recover. Timeout, Portland.

54.5 to play, 20 seconds on the shot clock.

Each team has a timeout.

Roy find Magloire Underneath!
posted: at 9:06 PM

He jams it for an easy two!

Portland within three and they get the stop!

Roy misses a reverse but Jamaal grabs the board. Zack fouled down low and after this timeout, he can cut the Memphis lead to just one!

Take that refs! The Trail Blazers can still win this one no matter how much you end up screwing it up!

Zach Scores and is Fouled
posted: at 9:03 PM

He'll go to the line and try to complete the three-point play.

........................catches the back iron.

And on the break Mike Miller runs down Brandon Roy, who was in place to take the charge, but the Trail Blazer rookie is called for the block.

Crazy, just crazy...

Still, Portland has the ball, down only seven. 4:15 to go.

Jarrett Jack is fouled, and though the shot rolls out, he's going to the line for two.

Hits the first!

And the second.

Portland within five.

Whistles Brandon Roy for carrying... unbelieveable...

The Grizzlies have taken a six point lead, mostly because of calls gone against the Trail Blazers that have resulted in either turnovers or free throws.

Memphis has made 27 of their 28 attempts, while Portland have hit all nine.

18 point difference at the line, in favor of the road team... What's happening here?

A soaring baseline dunk by Rudy Gay puts the Grizzlies up 95-87 with 6:09 left to go.

The Stats Would it All
posted: at 8:50 PM

Both teams were shooting over 50% from the field at halftime. Now the Trail Blazers are up to 58% and Memphis has dropped off to the high 40's.

So that stats would tell you the Trail Blazers have a bigtime lead, but that would not take into account all the ridiculous calls that have gone against the home team tonight. Still, the Trail Blazers are finding a way.

It's all tied up at 87, with 8:03 left to go.

And, MY GOODNESS! Travis Outlaw just saved an easy Mike Miller layup with an explosive block!

Trail Blazers corral. Timeout.

And Mike Miller quickly answers with a layup.

But LaMarcus is there to clean up a Zach Randolph miss and the Trail Blazers are up six again, which equals their biggest lead of the game.

In that last quarter the Trail Blazers outscored the Grizzlies by 11. Indeed the home team is in a good place in their quest for a third straight victory.

Miller Rescues the Grizzlies
posted: at 8:39 PM

Mike Miller's back to back three's gave the Grizzlies a lift when they needed it most. Still, the Trail Blazers are scoring up a storm. After going down by one, they quickly bounced back to lead by three on buckets from Brandon Roy and Zach Randolph.

This crowd is up, cheering, and now it officially feels like the weekend has started.

82-79, Trail Blazers.

Another Stop
posted: at 8:34 PM

Trail Blazers are starting to get it done on both ends now. If this keeps up they could just end up running away with this one... But let's not get too hasty...

Jamaal's two free throws put the Trail Blazers up 76-73. 3:53 remaining in the third.

OOH! Those easy ones must have gotten Jamaal fired up because he just STUFFED Tarence Kinsey to force a shot clock violation.

Beautiful.

Damon to the Hoop
posted: at 8:31 PM

That was the first glimpse of the old, offensive-minded Damon Stoudamire we used to know. Mighty Mouse slashed to the basket, beat his defender, and scored an easy two with his left hand.

But there hasn't been much of that action for Damon tonight -- he's mostly been deferring to his teamates. He's got seven points and seven assists.

Roy nails three to bring the Trail Blazers within one! And they get a stop. Could go up on this next possession, after this timeout.

73-72, Grizzlies.

At the Half
posted: at 8:03 PM

Gasol hit a 15-footer and Jarrett Jack missed a bomb from behind the half-court line. With that, the Trail Blazers are down 58-50 at the intermission.

Still, it wouldn't be strange to expect the home team to come out with their intensity racheted up a few notches after coach McMillan gets in their ears in the locker room.

And in honor of Black History Month we've got some really cool African dancing and drumming tonight as the Rose Garden's halftime entertainment.

58-50, Memphis.

As always, I'd like to invite everyone out there in Trail Blazer-land to post your comments, questions, or anything else that's on your mind here on the Gametime Blog. And if you haven't signed up for an account, there couldn't be a better time than right now!

Roy for Three More
posted: at 8:01 PM

But the Grizzlies keep answering, and when the don't, the refs are helping them out. There's been at least five really bad calls so far in this first half (and that's a conservative count).

Still, the Trail Blazers are right in it, down only six.

24.2 seconds left and Memphis will likely hold for the last shot.

Trail Blazers Turning it Up
posted: at 7:54 PM

They've cut the Memphis lead to only four. It wont be long now... the Grizzlies were forced to call timeout, hoping to quiet this Friday night crowd. Good luck.

Zach Randolph is finding his stride on offense -- he's getting good position, shaking defenders and hitting the glass with aplomb.

Trail Blazers 44, Grizzlies 48 with 3:31 remaining in the half.

Outlaw stuff Hakim Warrick badly, though it was called a foul. The replay proves it. Warrick was RE-JECTED.

And Sergio's floater is clearly goaltended, but no whistle there...

We ARE in Portland, RIGHT?

No Matter, because Jarrett Jack just nailed a three.

Wait.. maybe I spoke too soon because the next time down Martell got hacked on a dunk attempt but again no foul was called... the boo's are raining down, and for good reason...

Memphis still up 10, but if the calls were just, this thing would be a lot closer.

An Interesting Shift...
posted: at 7:45 PM

Coach McMillan is playing Sergio at the point with Jarett Jack at shooting guard -- something you don't see to often. The lineup is rounded out with Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw and Jamaal Magloire.

Indeed this isn't your average Trail Blazer lineup.

And on his first shot, Sergio gets nothing but net.

Outlaw for Two
posted: at 7:34 PM

And then two more!

The youngster brough his shooting touch tonight.

But a deep Chuck Atkins three give the Grizzlies a 10-point lead going into the second quarter. Still, there's no reason for the Trail Blazers to panic. A little run will get them right back in this game, and doing so ought to shake the Grizzlies, who have the worst road record in the league (they've only won 3 away from home all year!).

33-23, Memphis.

Hopefully the free throws will get Martell going on offense. He's had a tough time over the course of these last few games...

And, from the likes of the incredibly enthusiastic ovation Jones just got, Portland fans can't wait until he's on the floor, wearing the Trail Blazers black, silver and scarlet uniform.

8-0 Grizzlies Run
posted: at 7:20 PM

And Nate McMillan calls timeout.

Before that, Dan Dickau was at the scorers, ready to check in, which brings up an interesting subplot -- how will the minutes at point guard be split?

Will Sergio Rodriguez, who's been rounding back into shape see his first action since going down with an ankle injury? Or will Dickau, who has played quite well in the last two Trail Blazer wins, continue to see significant time?

All I can tell you now is we'll see. And I'll be sure to keep you updated.

LaMarcus just hit back to back shots and the Trail Blazers are down three, 14-17.

Magloire Quickly Hit with Second
posted: at 7:14 PM

Two early fouls and LaMarcus Aldridge is seeing some very early minutes. He's in for Jamaal with nine minutes left in the first, and will certainly have his hands full defending Memphis' Pau Gasol.

Brandon Roy just drove, was fouled, and hit both his free throws. The Trail Blazers are up 6-5.

And wow, Gasol just drew a foul on Aldridge. What's going on down there? Let's just hope the refs are trying to set a tone, because no game can be called this tightly for 48 minutes -- all the players will be fouled out.

Trail Blazers and Grizzlies Coming Up
posted: at 6:57 PM

It wont be long now. Both teams are shooting around, stretching, and getting ready to do battle. Tonight's game will be the third of the season between the two clubs. The Trail Blazers took the first two, most recently a 135-132 double-overtime win in Memphis on January 27th.

Besides clinching the series, a win tonight would give the Trail Blazers a record of .500 at the Rose Garden on the season -- good stuff! Indeed the team has played harder and won more often in these last few weeks at home, something Nate McMillan has been hoping for.

The Trail Blazers have won their last two straight over playoff-bound western conference teams the Jazz and Lakers. The Grizzlies have lost their last three games.

Tonight's game marks only the second time Damon Stoudamire has played in the Rose Garden since leaving the Trail Blazers two seasons ago. His last visit was tragically marked as Damon stuffered an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

I saw Damon as he was preparing to enter the court and I'll tell you, he certainly looked happy to be home. He was hollering to friends and had a big grin on his face.

It's getting close.
