Tough loss for Blazers...
posted: Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 8:31 PM

Final score - Mavericks 103, Blazers 96.

Fans can't be too disappointed with the Blazers effort against Dallas. Jarret Jack had a huge game, scoring 20 points and dealing 10 assists, and Zach Randolph helped keep the Blazers close by adding 20 points of his own.

The new Blazers are definitely one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA. Check them out on Fox Sports Northwest as they take on Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves this Tuesday.

Coach Nate gets technical...
posted: at 8:23 PM

After a big three by Dallas guard Jason Terry, Coach Nate McMillan was hit with a technical foul for merely explaining to the referee that Erick Dampier is not allowed to pick up and carry Lamarcus Aldridge across the paint.

A late three by Zach Randolph has cut the Maverick lead to 5 and given Randolph his 20th point of the game. If he grabs one more rebound, that will be yet another double-double for Zach.

Dirk who!?!? Aldridge with big basket...
posted: at 8:20 PM

With 2:40 to play and the Blazers trailing by 3 points, the Rose Garden has erupted!

Lamarcus Aldridge wrestled a rebound from Dirk Nowitzki and scored his 8th point of the game to bring the Blazers within 1...

Lead cut to 4 points...
posted: at 8:13 PM

Randolph, on back to back possessions, has begun asserting himself on the offensive end and Portland fans had to see this coming. Randolph has been the go-to guy all season and that's not going to change against Erick Dampier...

Not enough can be said about this new Portland team, either. Their high energy defense and fast paced offense is great entertainment, while the team itself never quits. With such a high percentage of dramatic games, Portland may very well lead the league in heart attacks per game by the end of the year...

Devean George gets technical foul...
posted: at 8:03 PM

With 8:10 left to play in the game, referees dished out the first technical foul of the game to Dallas Maverick Devean George. After Jack hit the free-throw, and Outlaw converted on the back end of a three-point play, the Maverick lead dwindled to 6 points...

It's hard to tell why George was so angry about the foul call because he really assaulted Travis Outlaw. Portland authorities were even seen standing by to ensure that Outlaw did not want to press charges.

Blazers head to fourth down 13...
posted: at 7:54 PM

Jarrett Jack and Jason Terry have been putting on quite a show to end the third quarter. Terry has 17 points, but Jack has stayed with him stride for stried, scoring 13 of his own.

The biggest difference of the game is still Zach Randolph who is still way below the 28 points per game he had previously been averaging. The Mavericks have really forced Randolph to pass out of the post, which has created shots for other Blazers, but kept Zach off of the scoreboard.

Lamarcus Aldridge has re-entered the game to start the fourth quarter and has 4 points so far in his debut.

Timeout with 7:12 left in third...
posted: at 7:35 PM

In one of the best games in timeout history, one lucky fan had an opportunity to fire the tee-shirt cannons at a stationary Century 21 bull's-eye. After 2 attempts, the fan hit it dead center and left the court $250 richer.

That's the second time in two nights that Portland fans have won big prizes in tough games. Against the Hornets, a lucky contestant nailed a half-court jumper to win a Toyota Tundra...

Blazers head to halftime down 3...
posted: at 7:10 PM

After a slow start, the Blazers turned up the intensity in the second quarter and tightened the Maverick lead to 3 points... Juan Dixon leads all Blazers with 10 points off the bench, and Jarrett Jack has played solid with 8 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Containing Dirk Nowitzki has to be one of the main concerns for the Blazers, because he's gotten off to a fast start with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Travis Outlaw has done a nice job of staying active on Nowitzki and Aldridge was also effective in his limited playing time...

The halftime show tonight was the TNT Dunk Squad who dazzled the Rose Garden crowd with acrobatic, trampoline-aided dunks. After much debate, officials decided it was in the best interest of the players to remove the trampolines before the start of the second half.

Blazers down 10 with 6 left...
posted: at 6:49 PM

Zach Randolph has returned for the Blazers and they're trying desperately to get him going... In the mean time, 4 Blazer fans have been chosen to play musical chairs with a new Verizon phone on the line. After some early confusion, the game got really intense and fans had to vote on which participant landed in the final chair first... Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Randolph's making an effort to take over the game on the offensive end. After completing a three-point play, he returned to the line on the ensuing possession and nailed both free throws. Zach's shooting better than 91% on the year from the free-throw line.

Fans are on their feet as Portland has cut the Maverick lead to 1! Could this be another game decided by the last possession???

End of first quarter...
posted: at 6:43 PM

An early indicator of how the game has gone is Zach Randolph's first quarter line. The forward has 0 points and 3 rebounds, and constantly seems to have 2 or 3 Maverick defenders in his face. Portland needs to increase their intensity on defense and get some easy buckets to regain some of the momentum. Look for them to pressure the Mavericks backcourt with a full court press...

But as we see in the second quarter, portland wins games because of their depth. With portland having 15 points from the bench so far in this quarter, and dallas having 0, guys like zach randolf can have shaky starts because portland does have enough shooters to keep themselves in range.

Portland down early 16 - 4
posted: at 6:30 PM

The Blazers did a nice tribute to all the men and women serving or who have served their country in honor of Veteran's day. Hopefully, the tribute will take the lid off the hoop because the Blazers cannot buy a basket right now. Juan Dixon has entered the game to add another weapon on the offensive end...

Time-out Blazers with 8:36...
posted: at 6:23 PM

The Blazers needed a quick break to get organized on offense. Dallas has been quick to double team Randolph and has been putting pressure on Jack to force other Blazers to contribute early...

The Blazer cheerleaders used the time-out to bring free Pizza Hut pizza to fans in the 300 level of the Rose Garden. There's no better reason to come to a game than the chance to win free pizza!

Roy out... Aldridge set to play...
posted: at 6:05 PM

The Blazers will be without Brandon Roy tonight, who only saw 6 minutes of action against the Hornets, because of the heel injury which has continually bothered him since the Clippers game.

However, Portland fans may get to see Lamarcus Aldridge for the first time in regular season play and his debut could not come at a better time. Portland is already missing two centers and desperately needs a backup for Jamaal Magloire who has split rebounding duties with Zach Randolph.

NBA scouts compared the young Aldridge to Dirk Nowitizki because both have an inside - outside combination of skills and an unparalleled ability to create. Hopefully, Aldridge can contain the perennial All-Star and help the Blazers move to 5 - 2.

Blazers - Mavericks... Twenty minutes 'til Tip-Off
posted: at 5:48 PM

There isn't a hotter team in the NBA right now then the Portland Trail Blazers who put the league on notice after recovering from a 27 point deficit to beat the NO/OK Hornets on Friday night. Travis Outlaw had a career high in blocks, Jarrett Jack bullied Chris Paul and Zach Randolph was his usual spectacular self- winning the game on a free throw with just over two seconds left to play.

The same can't be said for the Dallas Mavericks who seem to be suffering from an extended hangover from last year's Finals loss to the Miami Heat. The Mavericks are 1 - 4 and have given up 105.2 points per game, while their high-powered offense has been somewhat stagnant only scoring 95 points per game. The Blazers should look to push the ball and expose the Mavericks' transition defense. If they do this, not only will they win the game but fans in attendance will be treated to the 100 point free chalupa for the second time in three games!

The game has a lot of interesting match-ups but none bigger than the Randolph - Nowitzki battle that could very well dictate the outcome of the game. Zach's MVP numbers have led the Blazers, but Nowitizki continues to be one of the league's shining stars.
